MICHAEL'S JOURNEY TO NIGERIA
My friends I am sending you this website to ask for your help. I will be going to Jos Nigeria June 12th thru June 30, 2006. As you may be aware there is a crisis world wide in dealing with AIDS and poverty. I have decided since I can not donate large amounts of money to help those in need that I would give my time and heart. In Nigeria the children are suffering because of AIDS. They do not have the health care, access to medication and many children are left abandoned.
I was recently advised from the organization I will be volunteering for that the small hospital I was going to help at burned down two weeks ago. This has made the crisis even more urgent because it has left the town with no medical records or medication. On my trip I will be volunteering in an orphanage with the children.
It is my hope to help bring some dignity to the people infected with this horrible virus. As there is no cure they are often outcast from society. I will be giving talks once a week to groups of over 600 people trying to educate them on the humanity, need for treatment, and different ways to prevent the spread of AIDS.
We are all children of the world and something needs to be done. I only hope that for the short time I am there I can give a bit of hope to all the children who need it.
As many of you have brought me great hope during the rough times in my life I ask for your thoughts and prayers through this journey. I thank you with all my heart for your friendships, your kindness and your support.
As you can imagine I can’t do this alone. I need your help. I know times are tight and we all work hard to make money. I would appreciate any financial support you can give me on this journey. I want to thank you all in advance for helping to offset the cost of this trip. I truly believe my greatest gift is to lend my being, my knowledge and my love for the children. There is a great need for bodies to do this work. I feel I have been called. Often times we send money to organizations where there is no real way to see that it actually reaches the people who need it most. The foundation I will be working with is called Faith Alive. Faith Alive does bring all of there donations directly to the people and that is why I have chosen them.
Any amount you can give no matter how small would be appreciated. If you can’t donate I understand completely and would appreciate your prayers and thoughts. I love you and will keep you all in my prayers. Upon my return I will update the site with photos and journal entries. I am not sure if time or technology will permit it while I am there.
